The producer

Despite being a relative latecomer to Priorat, Dominik Huber arrived in 2001 and within twenty years has created wines that are heralded even within the context of the very best of Priorat. Farming according to organically and biodynamic principles, the vineyards rise from 350 to 800 meters. These are wines of amazing freshness and finesse, wines that speak of their terroir in more delicate tones; yet wines that don’t lack in depth and richness of flavor.

Terroir al Limit produces an exemplary range of wines – both white and red - from various plots in Priorat and neighbouring Monstant. This is an estate that does not stand still and quality seems to remain on an ascendant. The top cuvees show the two faces of the traditional Priorat grape varieties. We currently focus on top cuvee Les Manyes, along with single vineyards Les Tosses and L’Arbosar, and the white ‘Pedra de Guix’.

The wine

Les Tosses is the first wine in the Terroir Al Limit collection, introduced in 2003. Fruit for this Grand Cru is sourced from 80-year-old Carignan vines in the 2-hectare southwest facing single vineyard at 600 meters altitude in the Torroja del Priorat village. The wine is whole cluster native fermented and following aged for 16 months in 1200l fuders. Opulent black fruit intermingle with sweet spices smoke and minerality, an almost rugged yet silky structure and vibrant acidity. Around 2,900 bottles are produced of each vintage.

We choose our wines based on a range of criteria (see how we choose our wines) of which critic scores is just one. Rather than simply highlight the best score to promote a wine, our average critic score is calculated from the scores provided by several respected wine critics, who we follow for specific regions. They do not represent all critic scores and, wherever possible, we try and give more weight to more recent reviews. Where appropriate we consider market-based scores like Global Wine Score or Wine Searcher Average scores.

As a rule, we look to offer wines that achieve a 92/100 average critic score or better and frankly a lot of very good wines simply don’t make the cut. As a high-end provider we want to reflect that positioning in the quality of wines we offer. Such wines are only a tiny fraction of those generally on offer in the market. We believe that an average score is a more conservative and representative approach, but it is still subjective and only offered as a guide to our customers, who will (and should) do their own research. We will add individual critic scores to our website in the future.
