Wine Tastings

One of the most enjoyable vinous experiences can be wine tasting. However, such events can sometimes be underwhelming due to:
- an excessive number of wines on offer
- the number of average, poor or uninteresting wines in the line-up
- too many people
- an impersonal or noisy environment
- little opportunity to discuss the wines
We address all of these challenges by hosting intimate tastings at our shop in London. and in all cases, these are usually for six to seven guests plus the host (usually James but in some cases, we will have a guest expert attending).

We generally cater based on a bottle a head to allow a sufficient “pour” of each wine. The cost of the tasting will always reflect the quality of the wines chosen and this results in no poor or average wines being offered. Nibbles and small bites will be served and the events will usually run from 18:30 to 21:00.
The number of guests also ensures a comfortable and intimate environment for our guests, where the wines can be tasted and discussed at a leisurely pace.
We offer three types of tasting which are:
Monthly Tastings
Usually on the last Friday of the month and the theme is usually around what’s new or back in the shop and/or what we and our customers have been drinking. The cost is usually around £90-100 per head. These are already popular.
Our next available dates are:
📅Dates:
- Friday 26th September 2025 – An introduction to Burgundy (~ £100 per head)
An introduction to Burgundy. This is a difficult to understand and often expensive region We will begin with two white Burgundies and six red Burgundies, all of which will be top village or premier crus from the best vintages. A voyage to discover more about the home of the world’s best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Masterclass Tastings
We have also launched “masterclass” tastings to give our customers the opportunity to taste even finer wines which are more difficult to obtain but also effectively “sharing” the cost of such wines among similarly minded wine lovers.
The themes here will usually be more specific, for example focused on a specific region, vintage, variety, often on a comparison basis. The cost is usually around £150-£200 per head depending on the wines on offer.
📅Dates:
- Friday 27th June 2025 – The 2009 and 2010 Bordeaux vintages (~ £175 per head)
The 2009 and 2010 Bordeaux vintages are two of the most celebrated of the 21st century, but they differ significantly in style, structure, and aging potential - especially on the Left Bank. Both vintages produced many fabulous wines in their own right but have different characteristics. This month, we offer you a unique opportunity to experience and better understand these differences.
- Friday 24th October 2025 – Premier and Grand Cru Burgundy (~ £185 per head)
This masterclass is the logical follow up to the September tasting but this time we move it up a notch and look at some outstanding Premier and Grand Crus.
-
Friday 28th November 2025 – The old and new stars of Spain (~£150 per head)
An Introduction to some of the top stars and value buys of Spain (Tempranillo and Carignan blends from Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Tora & Priorat).
Bespoke Tastings
Finally, we will continue to offer “bespoke” tastings where a customer may want to invite their own group of friends (usually 6 people) and will plan the lineup (and budget) with us in advance. We have hosted a number of such events with the budget ranging from £75 to £500+ per head depending on what the customer is looking for.
In all cases customers will be offered a 5% discount on any of the wines offered at the tastings. Such discounts can be used on the evening of the event or online or in store for a week after the tasting.
