Beaune

Overview

Beaune is the centre of the Cote d’Or and of the entire Burgundy region’s trade of wine. Traditionally Beaune produced mostly red wines, but more recently white wines are starting to be produced in higher numbers.

Classification

The Beaune appellation has over 40 premier cru vineyards, which is higher than any other village appellation on the Cote, and premier cru blends are relatively often produced by the bigger houses.

Some of the best premier cru vineyards include Clos de Mouches, Vignes Franches and Greves. The Beaune appellation does not have any grand cru vineyards. The village of Beaune is home to many domaine’s administrative offices, but is also home to the Hospices de Beaune which since 1859 has been home of the eponymous charity wine auction.
