Our Story

Behind every venture there is a story that inspired the venture. Our Managing Director and Founder tells of the inspiration for The Perfect Bottle in his own words.

"A few years back I was going to a wine tasting with a group of wine loving friends, a regular event. The tastings were based on a pre-agreed theme and on this occasion the theme was only agreed at the last moment (two days away) – classified Bordeaux from 2005 (I was asked to bring a top Saint Estephe).  I wanted to try something new, excellent quality, great vintage and region specific. And it needed to be available immediately or next day. How difficult can that be I thought?

Well quite difficult it turned out. I tried the main search engines, and the best options usually required a minimum purchase of 6 bottles and a slow delivery.  There were almost no options and those few available were at an eyewatering price, which I decided to pay at a luxury store securing a 2005 Cos d’Estournel. A great wine but a ridiculous price and when sharing this story, I was surprised to hear everyone had a similar experience at one time or another.

The idea quickly grew from there. The need was not for just another wine merchant but a specialist one which specifically allowed easy and speedy access to single or loose bottles of very fine wine without the limitations and hassle. Our range needed to have, not only a range of the finest wines, but importantly wines that were relatively good value for money, whatever the price point. Not as easy as we thought, we needed a methodology to find the finest wines at the best value.
