Soave Classico

Overview

Soave is lying immediately east of Valpolicalla, and the area’s original heartland – referred to as the “Classico” zone – consists of mostly hillside vineyards surrounding the villages of Soave and Monteforte d’Alpone, and is generally recognised as the origin of the finest examples. Within Soave Classico several single vineyard sites are recognised with their names appearing on the wine labels.

Key Grape Varieties

Garganega is Soave’s main grape and must make up a minimum of 70% of the Soave blend, usually supplemented by Trebbiano di Soave. Other white grape varieties found in Veneto, may account for max 5% of a blend. The finest examples of white wine from the area are characterised by a delicate almost saline texture and aromatic profile, redolent of candied lemons and almonds, with layers of ripe orchard fruit, a medium to full body and crisp acidity.
