The producer

Louis Jadot, Domaine des Héritiers, Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières represents one of the crown jewels in the vast holdings of this historic Burgundy house. Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Maison has grown into one of Burgundy’s most respected producers and négociants, with an extraordinary portfolio that spans the length of the Côte d’Or. Through its Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot, the family estate established in 1900, Jadot directly cultivates exceptional vineyard parcels across the region, including prestigious sites in Puligny-Montrachet, Beaune, and Gevrey-Chambertin.
The Les Folatières vineyard, one of Puligny-Montrachet’s most celebrated Premier Crus, produces wines that epitomize the elegance and minerality of the appellation. Here, Jadot applies a meticulous viticultural approach with sustainable farming, controlled yields, and careful hand-harvesting combined with traditional Burgundian winemaking. Fermentation and aging in French oak barrels (with a moderate proportion of new wood) bring depth and complexity while preserving the site’s signature purity and finesse. Under the leadership of Pierre-Henry Gagey, Louis Jadot continues to uphold its long-standing philosophy of crafting wines that express the true character of their terroirs with authenticity, precision, and enduring quality.

The wine

Louis Jadot, Domaine des Héritiers, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières is a distinguished white Burgundy from the renowned village of Puligny-Montrachet, located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. This Premier Cru vineyard, Les Folatières, sits on the mid-slope of the Côte des Blancs, where the limestone-rich soils with a fine layer of clay produce wines of exceptional finesse and minerality.
Puligny-Montrachet is celebrated for crafting some of Burgundy’s most elegant and precise Chardonnays, and Les Folatières is among its most admired climats. The wine combines vibrant citrus and white floral aromas with hints of hazelnut and subtle oak spice. On the palate, it is both refined and layered, showing tension, purity, and a long, mineral-driven finish that captures the essence of this iconic terroir. A benchmark Premier Cru in the Louis Jadot portfolio, it reflects the domaine’s dedication to expressing each vineyard’s true character with clarity and grace.

We choose our wines based on a range of criteria (see how we choose our wines) of which critic scores is just one. Rather than simply highlight the best score to promote a wine, our average critic score is calculated from the scores provided by several respected wine critics, who we follow for specific regions. They do not represent all critic scores and, wherever possible, we try and give more weight to more recent reviews. Where appropriate we consider market-based scores like Global Wine Score or Wine Searcher Average scores.

As a rule, we look to offer wines that achieve a 92/100 average critic score or better and frankly a lot of very good wines simply don’t make the cut. As a high-end provider we want to reflect that positioning in the quality of wines we offer. Such wines are only a tiny fraction of those generally on offer in the market. We believe that an average score is a more conservative and representative approach, but it is still subjective and only offered as a guide to our customers, who will (and should) do their own research. We will add individual critic scores to our website in the future.
