In Chablis, Domaine Drouhin has, since 2008, been recognized as “Drouhin-Vaudon” – named after the Moulin de Vaudon, an 18^th century watermill located on the bank of the Serein River right in the heart of the Drouhin family’s 38 hectares of vineyards. Due to the ideal location in the middle of the vineyards, Moulin de Vaudon has been the headquarters of the Chablis domaine for several decades. Drouhin -Vaudon produces a range of Chablis, from village to some of the best premier cru vineyards, and the pinnacle ‘Bougros’ grand cru.

The wine

The Drouhin-Vaudon Les Clos Grand Cru Chablis 2020 is a standout Chardonnay reflecting the prestigious terroir of Chablis' largest and most renowned Grand Cru vineyard. With a pale gold yellow color and greenish hints, this wine impresses with a refined nose that combines aromas of lily ("fleur de lys"), honey, and preserved lemon. On the palate, it reveals an astounding depth and a velvety sensation, complemented by delicate marine nuances. This wine promises an intense and long aftertaste and, with aging, develops even more complex and subtle aromas, embodying incomparable finesse. Rated 94 by Jasper Morris, it's a wine of exceptional quality, showcasing the hallmark minerality and crispness of Chablis, perfectly balanced by a touch of richness and complexity

We choose our wines based on a range of criteria (see how we choose our wines) of which critic scores is just one. Rather than simply highlight the best score to promote a wine, our average critic score is calculated from the scores provided by several respected wine critics, who we follow for specific regions. They do not represent all critic scores and, wherever possible, we try and give more weight to more recent reviews. Where appropriate we consider market-based scores like Global Wine Score or Wine Searcher Average scores.

As a rule, we look to offer wines that achieve a 92/100 average critic score or better and frankly a lot of very good wines simply don’t make the cut. As a high-end provider we want to reflect that positioning in the quality of wines we offer. Such wines are only a tiny fraction of those generally on offer in the market. We believe that an average score is a more conservative and representative approach, but it is still subjective and only offered as a guide to our customers, who will (and should) do their own research. We will add individual critic scores to our website in the future.
