The producer
The Camille Giroud maison was established in 1903, and until the middle of the 1900s was a negociant business buying wine only. Throughout 1900s different family members took lead of the running of the estate, started buying fruit instead of wine, and acquired the first vineyard plots in Beaune in 1993. The following years saw some expansion, but stability was never quite found and in 2001, investors bought out the remaining family members. Notable Burgundy personality Becky Wasserman oversaw the maison for some years, revamping the operation and renewing grape purchasing contracts to the immense benefit of the wines produced. Today wines are made in several Burgundian appellation.
Camille Giroud owns 1.2 hectares in the renowned Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru vineyard, a prized parcel from which the estate produces wines that beautifully express the unique terroir.
The wine
The Camille Giroud Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru is a powerful and refined expression of this iconic vineyard. Sourced from a top parcel in the heart of Corton, the wine undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts and is aged for 18–24 months in French oak (30–50% new). The result is a wine with deep, complex flavours of dark cherry, raspberry, and spices, complemented by earthy, mineral notes from the limestone-rich soils, well-structured tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, persistent finish.
