Osterberg Grand Cru

Recognised as a Grand Cru in 1992, Osterberg is one of the three Grand Cru vineyards in the village of Ribeauville, the other two – Geisberg and Kirchberg – bordering Osterberg to the west. With almost 25 hectares, Osterberg is one of the largest Grand Cru vineyards in Alsace, and is planted mainly with Riesling, some Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer, and a tiny bit of Muscat. The vineyard has south, south-east exposure at altitudes of 250-350 metres and soils made up of marl-limestone and with sandstone and clay in the top layers. Evening winds blow down from the Aubure valley and temper the daytime heat in summer, thus preserving an almost austere acidity in the Osterberg wines in youth, yet with exotic aromas and a generous mouthfeel.
